Mustang opens season with 27-7 win at Choctaw

Mustang opened its 2026 football season with a 27-7 road win over Choctaw at Bill Jensen Field on Aug. 28.

The Broncos took control early. Mustang's defense stopped Choctaw on fourth down during the Yellowjackets' opening possession, and two plays later Obama Bell broke free for a 71-yard touchdown run. Bell appeared bottled up near the line before spinning away and racing down the sideline for a score on his first carry as a Bronco.

Penalties and turnovers made the rest of the first half uneven. Each team had a touchdown erased by a penalty, and Choctaw intercepted Mustang quarterback Kason Delgado while pressure disrupted several other passing attempts.

Mustang still added 10 points in the second quarter. Harrison Daniels made a 43-yard field goal, and Delgado scored on a 10-yard run to give the Broncos a 17-0 halftime lead. The MHSBroncoSports.TV broadcast reported that Mustang had 208 yards at halftime, including 150 rushing yards on 22 carries.

Choctaw opened the second half with a three-and-out before putting together its best drive of the night. The Yellowjackets went 69 yards in 12 plays for a touchdown, cutting Mustang's lead to 17-7 with 6:05 left in the third quarter.

The Broncos answered before the quarter ended. Delgado found Gabriel Osborne Jr. in the back corner of the end zone for a 33-yard touchdown with 51 seconds remaining, restoring a 24-7 advantage.

Mustang's defense protected the lead in the fourth quarter. Bell intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned it into Choctaw territory, adding to an earlier interception by Tylen Duncan. The Broncos also recovered a muffed punt late in the game.

After the recovery, Mustang leaned on Hunter Huggins to run down the clock and move inside the Choctaw 10-yard line. Daniels kicked his second field goal with one second remaining to complete the 27-7 win.
