Mustang scored on all seven first-half possessions and kept Southmoore out of the end zone in a 48-0 road victory Friday, Oct. 2, at Sabercat Stadium in Moore.

The Broncos built a 41-0 halftime lead behind five touchdowns and two Harrison Daniels field goals. Their defense repeatedly pressured Southmoore's quarterbacks, intercepted two passes and protected the shutout with a third-quarter fourth-down stand.

Mustang improved to 3-2 overall after bouncing back from its district-opening loss to Bixby. Southmoore fell to 0-5.

Mustang finished with 359 total yards and held Southmoore to just 16. Tylen Duncan, who intercepted a pass and contributed tackles and pass breakups, was named player of the game.

Short fields and quick scores

Braesyn Williams intercepted a deep pass on Southmoore's opening possession and returned it to the end zone, but an illegal block in the back erased the touchdown. Mustang kept possession in Southmoore territory, and Jayden Reyes finished the short drive with a rushing touchdown for a 7-0 lead after the extra point.

Maddox Gregg stopped Southmoore's next possession on fourth down. Reyes then contributed a catch-and-run, and a completion to Obama Bell moved Mustang near the goal line. Kason Delgado found Bell again for a touchdown at the edge of the end zone, extending the lead to 14-0.

After another defensive stop, Delgado connected with Gabriel Osborne Jr. down the middle for a catch-and-run touchdown. Mustang led 21-0 after one quarter.

Maximus Baca's fourth-down sack set up another short field in the second quarter. Freshman Ethan Truss helped move the offense into scoring position before running for a touchdown and a 28-0 lead.

Duncan intercepted Southmoore's flea-flicker attempt on the next possession. A face-mask penalty improved Mustang's field position, and Delgado later escaped pressure and reached the corner for a rushing touchdown. The extra point made it 35-0.

Daniels closed the half with field goals on Mustang's final two possessions. A holding penalty nullified another Delgado touchdown run on the last drive, but Daniels converted after time expired to send the Broncos into halftime ahead 41-0.

Defense preserves the shutout

Graham Donaldson took over at quarterback in the second half as Mustang rotated more players into its offense. A fumble on the opening possession gave Southmoore an opportunity, and penalties helped the Sabercats advance into the red zone.

Mustang's defense answered with pressure from Gregg and Baca, then stopped consecutive short-yardage runs near its own 10-yard line. The fourth-down stop kept Southmoore scoreless, and neither team scored in the third quarter.

A running clock shortened the second half, but additional Mustang players received carries. Dajuan Woody broke free for the game's final touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Tate Homer's extra point completed the 48-0 score.

Mustang rushed for 233 yards and passed for 126. Southmoore finished with 58 passing yards and minus-42 rushing yards. The Broncos were penalized 12 times for 77 yards.
