Two five-run innings powered Mustang to a 12–3 softball victory over Deer Creek on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Mustang High School Softball Complex. The Broncos collected 13 hits to extend their winning streak to five games and improve to 11–4 overall and 6–1 in district play.
Jenna Poage kept Deer Creek in check early, while Mustang built a 2–0 first-inning lead behind McCorvey’s RBI single and an infield error. The Broncos broke the game open in the second, loading the bases on two singles and a bunt that drew another error. McCorvey’s RBI double and Hagan’s two-run single helped push the advantage to 7–0.
Deer Creek scored once in the third, but Mustang answered with five more runs in the fourth. Jade Ashbaugh and McCorvey opened the inning with singles, and Hagan added another run-scoring hit. The Broncos sent 10 batters to the plate, combining timely hitting with Deer Creek’s defensive mistakes to take a 12–1 lead.
River Mount relieved Poage in the fifth, when Deer Creek scored twice on Avery McGuire’s RBI double and Chloe Lasky’s RBI single. Mount allowed no further runs, retiring the side in order in the sixth and striking out Lasky to end the game in the seventh.
Poage held Deer Creek to just two hits and one run over four innings, striking out two and walking three. Her performance earned player-of-the-game honors. Mount finished with three innings of relief, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out two.
Mustang committed just one error, compared with six for Deer Creek, turning a cleaner defensive performance and sustained offensive pressure into another district win.
